We are a team of dedicated personal trainers and coaches, based in Crawley, who have dedicated our lives to helping people not only look how they want, but more importantly feel how they want long term. We bring a wealth of experience between us with a combined total of over 20 years coaching experience. Regardless of the client or their goals we want to help each and every person gain control of their nutrition, enjoy exercise and live their own best lives through fitness.
We recognise that the fitness industry is a vast, unregulated mess, with many charlatans and fakes out there. As part of the OPEX family we are together pushing the message and idea of the Professional Fitness Coach. The education path, both taken already and ongoing for an OPEX Coach, is unlike anything else in our industry, we understand that to continue to help our clients we must continually investigate new developments and seek the truth with all the information that is put out there.

The owner of OPEX Gatwick, Glen is a 40 something father of one, husband to Hannah and Dog Dad to Archie. Glen has been coaching for nearly a decade now, prior to that he had a very different career as a Police Officer in both Sussex Police and the Metropolitan Police for over 13 years, working in Brighton, Central London and on Firearms Units across Sussex.
Glen has always been passionate about fitness. He swam competitively and played basketball at County level as a teenager. In his twenties Glen developed a keen interest in bodybuilding and also endurance sports such as marathons. Around 10 years ago Glen found CrossFit and developed a big passion for this style of fitness which led him towards Coaching and opening what is now OPEX Gatwick back in 2013.
Glen loves helping people, that has been the trend his whole career and really individual coaching gives him the best platform to do that!
Kris originally started his journey at OPEX Gatwick as a member of the gym but quickly showed his enthusiasm and passion to learn more and help others. Kris is originally from Bulgaria and moved to the UK some years ago, as anyone who has met Kris knows he has an infectious smile and is constantly learning something new to help Coach others!
Kris grew up with a passion for Boxing back in Bulgaria competing at a national and international level for over 7 years. Unfortunately, due to an injury, he had to give up the sport he loved but he can still often be found in the gym knocking the bag around! Today Kris has a general passion for fitness having tried bodybuilding, gymnastics, Olympic weightlifting and mixed modal sports, he loves to experience all things here!
Glen would say Kris is like a sponge with regards to new knowledge and his thirst to grow and develop as a Coach over the last 4 years has been amazing to witness. Quite recently Kris has developed a particular interest in behavioural science and psychology, both useful when it comes to helping people changing habits and behaviours!
Rebecca, like Kris started her journey as a member of the gym but was in fact here on Day 1 when the gym opened over 8 years ago! Over that time Rebecca has had a family and has developed her own passion as a Coach to the point that she has now come full circle and is now a Coach at the gym.
Rebecca is a mother of two, former Cabin Crew for over 10 years and is passionate about her own fitness. She loves taking part in Mixed Modal / CrossFit type training and like Kris enjoys experimenting with different elements of fitness.
Rebecca is passionate about Nutrition Coaching and is a Level 2 Qualified Precision Nutrition Coach. Along with this she is also currently studying for her degree in sports and exercise nutrition. Rebecca loves helping people gain control of their nutrition and lifestyle long term through habit and behaviour change.
We give you the accountability and support you need. You will work with your Coach 1-2-1 to build a roadmap towards success that is specific for you. They will be with you every step of the way to support you and guide you towards success. Most importantly they are there when things don’t go to plan too and will equally support you through the inevitable lows and highs of your journey.
Design an individualised exercise program, carried out at our bespoke gym. Your exercise program will be for you, and only you. Designed based on information we will get from the intake process. You get to do this program in our gym, the biggest privately owned gym in Crawley and will always have the guidance and support of a Coach on the floor to help you with your program.
Work with you on changing habits and behaviours around nutrition and lifestyle. Note, we don’t mention meal plan! Why? Because they just don’t work long term. Instead we play the long game and work with you on the way you nourish your body and live your life, finding what is right for you at the right time.
OPEX Fitness was founded by James Fitzgerald, a world renowned Fitness Coach originally from Canada who now lives in Arizona in the US. OPEX Fitness has been a world leader within Coaching Education for a number of years. Their mission is to make the Fitness Coach a professional recognised role in society. There are approximately 60 OPEX Licensed gyms across the world with 4 currently in the UK. A licence means the gyms are independently owned but we need to pass a strict vetting process and all Coaches need to have completed their developmental education with OPEX.
Because we are professionals. We are each equally passionate about helping people long term to achieve what they never thought possible. The education path for an OPEX Coach is like nothing else within the fitness industry, and the continuing development of our Coaches is at the forefront of our business model.
Most personal trainers charge an hourly rate from £30 to £100 per hour BUT the quality of Coaching you will receive varies greatly. Also within this model you are only paying for that 1-2-1 time so what you do outside of that in terms of other exercise sessions, nutrition and lifestyle are often left entirely up to you!
It depends on you and what you need. You may well need that 60 minutes one to one with a Coach but what we have found from over a decade of coaching is that most people need the accountability and support of a Coach more than 1-2 hours per week. We believe that most people come to Personal Trainers because they need a bit more support and structure, and that is what we deliver but in a more cost effective and comprehensive way.
Again this depends largely on what you need from that trainer at that time but we would argue that 30 minutes with a Personal Trainer is not really enough time to get anything done! Again, we have found that most people wanting a personal trainer don’t just want some guidance for that 30 minutes, but also with everything else that goes on outside of the gym! If you are just seeing a trainer for 30 minutes there is no way they can build or deliver a comprehensive bespoke plan.
You will often be limited here by cost as personal trainers hourly rates stack up and also they are often overworked and unable to see you more than 2-3 times per week. We would suggest you should be exercising or moving in some form every day (even just a walk) but obviously paying for a personal trainer every day is very rarely cost effective.
Because the nature of the role means that they only see 1 person per hour and their time is often limited. This model makes it hard for the Trainer to scale their own business and it makes it hard for the clients as the price point is so high.
If this is the only exercise you will be doing in a week then no this is not enough. Again we would suggest you should be moving every day in some way with structured exercise 3-5 times per week.
From working with them. This is really the only way to really figure out if the trainer is a good fit for you or not. Qualifications don’t necessarily mean the trainer can coach effectively. Testimonials can easily be faked. Ask the questions on the front end to help you get a feel for them, don’t judge them just on how they look… They need to be in shape don’t get me wrong but they don’t need to have a 6 pack to help you!
Losing weight and keeping it off long term is a complex subject and highly individualised. IF your personal trainer provides nutritional support and Coaching then yes they may help you lose weight. In on our experience for most people it isn’t about just losing weight but what happens after the diet ends that they struggle with.
